Naturopathy is a holistic approach to wellness based on the principle that the body has the innate ability to heal itself when the right environment is provided.  Naturopathy seeks to find and treat the cause of symptoms, rather than simply treating symptoms that are defined as a “disease”. Our naturopath uses a combination of evidence based therapies to treat and restore the body to its natural balance. These therapies include nutritional advice for detoxification and prevention of disease, herbs to support the healing process, lifestyle advice to promote well-being and to reduce stress.

Before your first consultation you will be asked to complete a thorough health /diet /lifestyle questionnaire. Our naturopath will then go through this with you at your first appointment to gather any extra information and possibly request further laboratory tests if necessary to begin building your wellness plan.

Our naturopath has a particular interest in working with digestive disorders and an understanding of how the right nutrition can have powerful and positive affects on overall health. In her treatment plan she focusses on supporting and restoring the integrity of the gut which has been linked to:

  • IBS – (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
  • IBD – (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
  • SIBO – (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth)
  • Heartburn and acid reflux
  • Food intolerances
  • Allergies
  • Behavioural and learning difficulties
  • Brain fog and fatigue
  • Stress
  • Inflammation
  • Low immunity
  • Weight gain
  • Hormone problems
  • Candida overgrowth
  • Parasites
  • Skin problems like acne, eczema and dermatitis
  • Arthritis

Her holistic approach to wellness focusses on the unique aspect of each client, then individually tailoring an evidence based treatment plan to restore balance through nutrition, movement and lifestyle to treat the whole system, not just the symptoms.

Kryptopyrroles Pyrrole test

Also known as Mauve Factor - Pyrrole disorder is caused by the overproduction of hydroxyhempyrolin (HPL). The HPL binds to zinc and B6 preventing their use by the body and causing excretion in the urine. Pyrrole disorder is a biochemical imbalance that can be purely genetic or acquired through environmental and emotional stress and especially from ‘leaky gut syndrome’ and the over use of antibiotics. Many neurotransmitters such as serotonin, dopamine and GABA require vitamin B6 and/or zinc for their production.

Common conditions associated with pyrrole disorder include:
Antisocial behaviour
Bipola disorder
Digestive disorders
Joint pain
Learning disorder
Mental disorders (Poor stress control, nervousness, anxiety, mood swings, episodic anger, poor short-term memory and depression)
Sugar intollerance
Zinc deficiency

How does the test work? A urine sample is collected and tested for elevated urine kryptopyrrole levels. Treatment generally respond very well to nutritional supplementation.

Food intolerance testing

It is estimated that approximately 45% of the population suffers from food intolerances. Poor diet, medications, alcohol and stress can cause significant imbalance in the gut microbiome which leads to low-grade inflammation, and slowly damages the delicate membranes of your digestive tract. When these membranes are damaged you start to absorb particles of food into the blood stream that are not completely broken down. The immune system identifies these particles as foreign invaders and launches an immune responce. After repeated exposure to these foods the immune system becomes programmed to react. The symptoms of food intolerance vary with individuals and can be particularly complex if you are reacting to several foods at the same time, which is not uncommon.

If you have any of the following symptoms you could be suffering from food intolerance:
Anxiety/mood disorders
Arthritis/joint Pain
Behaviour problems
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Inflammatory Bowel Disease
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Nutritional deficiencies
Poor concentration/brain fog
Skin problems
Weight Problems

How does the test work? A simple blood finger pick test is used to screen for intolerance and sensitivities to either:
Western foods
Herbs & Spices
Environment inhalants
Asian foods

Hair mineral analysis

Minerals provide structural support in bones and teeth, they maintain the body's pH balance, nerve impulses, muscle contractions and enzyme functions. Ideally we are supposed to get all the minerals we need from a balanced diet, unfortunately modern farming and the use of fertilisers have depleted the minerals in our soils.

Heavy metals toxicity can be caused by exposure to pollution and chemicals. It is a growing concern to the population as metals deposit in body tissues leading significant developmental and neurological damage.

Common conditions associated with mineral deficiency & heavy metal toxicity include:
Behaviour problems
Decreased immune system
Digestive problems
Slow growth and development
Learning difficulties
Loss of appetite
Memory loss/confusion
Menstrual irregularities
Muscle cramps

How does the test work? As hair grows, nutrient and toxic elements are deposited from the blood stream into the hair follicle and hair shaft where it remains fixed. The hair mineral analysis is a safe, non-invasive test that measures levels of elements and heavy metals. A small section of hair is cut from the back of your neck and sent into the lab for testing. The hair sample needs to be free from any chemicals including dyes and bleach.

Comprehensive digestive stool analysis

The GI tract influences not only digestive health, but is also known as the ‘second brain", so it effects the entire body. The complete digestive stool analysis investigates digestion, metabolism, absorption, the balance of beneficial bacteria and the presence of pathological bacteria, yeast and parasites.

Symptoms and conditions associated with abnormal gut function include:
Abdominal pain
Autoimmune disease such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, celiac disease or Crohn's
Brain fog/memory loss
Craving for carbs
Digestion disorders
Food allergies/sensitivities
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Mood disorders
Skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis
Thyroid problems

How does the test work? A sample stool test is collected and tested to assist the practitioner in developing an effective treatment plan.

Zinc tally test

Zinc is needed for the body’s immune system to properly work, it also plays a role in cell division, cell growth, and wound healing. Zinc is also needed for the senses of smell and taste. Zinc and copper compete against one another as a result elevated copper and depressed zinc have been associated with hyperactivity, attention deficit disorders, behavior disorders, and depression research by – pubmed

How does the test work? After placing 10 mL of Zinc Tally in the mouth, a lack of taste or a delayed taste perception suggests a possible zinc insufficiency. An immediate taste perception suggests zinc status may be adequate.

*Please note –  Functional pathology testing is not currently covered by Medicare or private health fund rebates. An initial consult prior to ordering any testing and a follow up consult to explain your test results is required.
